HGTV Magazine Block Party

Monday I hit up the HGTV Magazine Block Party Social Media Mixer in NYC! It was a fun, colorful afternoon and I had such a great time!
Coffee, notebook... I was ready to listen  and soak up the knowledge and insight presented by  HGTV's awesome lineup of guest speakers.

Those stairs!

The best part of the event for me, were the talks given by Sam Ushiro of Aww.Sam and Joy Cho of Oh Joy! Annnd I got to talk to them both!!! It was wonderful to meet two of my favorite creative people!

HGTV put together a great event!

Chocolate Deco Pens

I used Williams Sonoma's Chocolate Deco Pens and food picks from the Elizabeth Doo-Dah shop to decorate macarons from Laduree!

Chocolate Deco Pens are fun, easy to use and perfect for decorating smaller cookies, where you need a finer tip and more control.

Such a fun way to personalize your dessert bar!

Dahlias & Puppy

This is my first year growing dahlias, and it has been so rewarding! I have made a lot of arrangements with them, and my son loves playing with the flowers! I decided to make a necklace for my puppy out of some of the flowers I cut today! She is so sweet :)

She was given a lot of cookies for the hard work she put in modeling for me!

Puppy Turns 12

When I was pregnant with my son and decorating his nursery, I had wanted to put a framed photo of our dog, Samardzija in there somewhere. For whatever reason, I forgot about it and never put a photo of her in his room. When their birthday rolled around this year (yes, they both have the same birthday!) I remembered and thought it would be great to get a photo of them in the nursery having a little birthday party.

My husband made the neon 12 for me with his 3D printer. And I bought a plain white cake at Wegmans and decorated it myself with some colorful sprinkles.

The sweetest babes ever.

Two bites, and the cake was gone! Then she licked the plate for 10 minutes.

Happy Birthday to my sweet Smardzija! I love you!

Jude's Beatles Cake Smash

My son Jude turned one last week and I want to share the Beatles themed cake smash setup my husband and I put together for him.

Neither of us had done a cake smash photo shoot before so I looked at a lot of cake smash photos to see what I liked and didn't like. After doing some research I realized I really liked the cake smash photos that had a reflection on the floor! To get the reflection, you just put down a sheet of plexiglass on the floor. And for the backdrop, we bought an inexpensive backdrop stand and a roll of seamless paper.

Once we had the paper hung, we layered paper fans and Beatles records to create a fun Beatles birthday cake smash background for our babe.

You definitely need at least 2 people to get good cake cake smash photos. One person to take the photos and another person to jump around and get the baby to look at the camera because they just want to look down at the colorful yummy cake you put in front of them!

I also recommend taking some video of the shoot. We got a few minutes on video and it's adorable!!! And another tip, have a bath ready to go because your babe will be covered in cake!!!!

I can't believe our Jude is ONE! I'll be sharing photos from his Beatles party soon!
