Turbie

I fell head over heels for the first car I ever bought. He was an adorable limited edition 2003 Chromaflare GLX VW Beetle in Cyan/Purple. Yeah that's right... he was a color changing Beetle! He looked different depending on the light or the angle you looked at him.... Turbie was beautiful!

My Turbie parked in the Meadowlands near Metlife stadium.

I named my car Turbie because he was a turbo Herbie. I loved my Turbie but sadly it was time for me to part ways for something more reliable. I never ever would have thought I would have been so attached to a car, but I really was.

I think that it is pretty common to be attached to your first car. My car stood out, so everyone saw it. When I sold it and started driving my new car, every one asked me where my car was and I sadly told them I decided to get a new car. And that would spark whoever was talking to me to tell me about their first car and they would light up when they talked. Usually the stories had the same theme, their first car wasn't practical because it was a two door or because it was an extreme gas guzzler but everyone had memories of their first car just being so much fun.

I have a new more practical car now and I do love it but my first love will always be my Turbie.

Thanks for the memories Turbie!

Treat. Yo. Self.

I wasn't the biggest Parks & Rec fan but my husband loved it. I just watched it for the Tom and Donna scenes... hysterical. Not sure what it says about me, but they were totally my kindred spirits. These Treat Yo Self cupcake toppers are now available in the elizabethdoodah shop!

Kentucky Derby 80th Birthday Party!

My mom and my 3 aunts threw a Kentucky Derby themed birthday for my Grandma this weekend... and it was EPIC! They went all out, the party was a DIY masterpiece.

Held at Niagara Frontier Country Club in Youngstown, NY...  the invite instructed guests to wear the best derby attire and ladies were told to wear their hats!

Posters of horses, famous jockeys were hung on the walls.

A few of the posters.

A photo booth was set up and the kids loved it!

Beautiful horseshoe cake with red roses from The Village Bake Shoppe.

The spinning musical flower birthday candle was a big hit!

Dessert table had homemade bourbon balls, horse shaped sugar cookies and cupcakes!

My Aunt Connie made this giant horseshoe!
Guests were given a rose lei to wear during the party.

Lots of games were played and prizes included wine, mint julep kits, the game Hold Your Horses and movie night gift baskets.

The horses that adorned every table were generously donated by 4 year old little Miss Natalee. My Aunt Connie just added the roses!

This was such a fun day and it was wonderful to see so many people come out to celebrate my Grandmother!
